Introducing THE NEW BMW i5. For the first time, this eight generation 5 Series is digital, dynamic and with all-electric drive. This new edition has a distinctive design; a clean and modern reinterpretation of the characteristic 5 Series look. On the inside, interior technology is the focus, with BMW Curved Display for an advanced, driver-focused cockpit experience. Other interior touches include a redesigned steering wheel, optional BMW Interaction Bar and for the first time on a BMW, a completely vegan interior. What do you love most about THE NEW i5? #THENEWi5 #BMWi5 BMW i5 eDrive40*: Combined power consumption: 18.9–15.9 kWh/100 km. Combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km. Electric range: 497–582 kilometers. Meet the brand New BMW 5 Series & BMW i5! This is the first 5 Series that’s been designed to come with an internal combustion engine as well as a pure electric car, so let’s find out everything you need to know about these all-new cars! Starting with the design, there’s very little difference between petrol-powered and electric cars. Both cars come with a wide double-kidney grille, and they’re available with traditional vertical bar designs or in all-black for M Sport trim levels. Along the side, you’ll find flush door handles and creases across the doors that seem pretty reminiscent of the E-Class, while at the back there’s a whole load of black trim across the rear bumper, and the brake lights come in an all-new design. Step inside and the new 5 Series reminds us of the 7 Series! There’s a huge widescreen infotainment system on the dash, which you can even use to connect to your Amazon Alexa account! The dashboard is available to be styled in aluminium, carbon fibre or wood trim, as well as an optional panoramic glass roof! All in all, the interior of the 5 Series and i5 is super smart! Then we come to the choice of engines. For those wanting to stick with an internal combustion engine, there’s not a whole lot of choice at the moment, with just one petrol engine available - the mild-hybrid 520i comes with a 2-litre 4 cylinder engine and an electric motor which combine to produce 208hp and 330Nm. Plug-in hybrid cars are also on the horizon, but won’t be released until 2024. However, for those choosing the i5, there are two options available, with the range-topper being the i5 M60. This comes with two electric motors which combine to produce 601hp - just 24hp less than an M5 Competition! What’s more, it also produces an immense 820Nm - 70Nm more than the M5! When it comes to the price, the petrol-powered 5 Series starts from just under £50,000, while the i5 starts from £73,200, rising all the way up to £97,000 for the i5 M60! So is it worth it? You’ll need to keep watching to see for yourself! The BMW i5 – it has finally arrived! This is the first all-electric version of the iconic 5 Series saloon and sits between the i4 coupe and range-topping i7 limo. While you get a large set of kidney grilles, they are not as intrusive as on the i4 or i7 – except for the weirdly placed sensor cover. You’ll also see flush door handles, alloy wheels ranging from 19- to 21-inch units and lots of blue flashes to ensure everybody knows it’s an electric car. Inside, it’s a classic BMW – professional, tidy and filled with tech. The German brand has also increased the cabin size to make the already comfortable interior even more accommodating. The boot is practical too. When it comes to the 5 Series, the entry-level uses a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 208hp. When it comes to the i5, the entry-level i40 uses a single motor that puts out 340hp and is equipped with an 82kWh battery pack which comes with a claimed range of up to 361 miles. The range-topping i5 is the M60, which has two motors that combine to put out 601hp. It has the same 82kWh battery pack, which is good for a range of 320 miles. But as with all BMWs, how it drives is just as important – so how does the i5 fare when Mat takes it for a spin? Watch the full review here to find out! #bmwi5 #bmwelectric #electriccars BMW’s electrification plans are moving at full speed. In the course of the past 18 months, the German brand has launched the iX3, iX1, i4 and i7. And now, that impressive range of battery beemers is about to be joined by this - the all-new BMW i5. For BMW the i5 is the big one. Why? It's simple – the 5 Series is the most important car the Bavarian carmaker builds. It has churned out more than 10 million of them over 50 years, and is very much its all-rounder – the BMW that has to cover all bases and exemplify exactly what the BMW brand is all about. Just like the i4, the i5 isn't a bespoke, ground-up electric car. Instead, BMW prefers to build one platform and use it for combustion engined models, hybrids and pure-electrics. BMW's way of doing things is very different from Audi’s or Mercedes’ as these brands tend to build a separate, bespoke electric version of a model. Think Mercedes E-Class and the EQE and you'll understand what we mean. The BMW i5’s 81.2kWh lithium-ion battery is good for an official WLTP range of up to 357 miles in the rear-wheel drive eDrive40, or up to 320 miles for the dual-motor, all-wheel drive M60. That’s not bad at all – it’s better than the Tesla Model Y or Audi e-tron GT can manage, but it’s a fraction less than the Mercedes EQE’s claimed WLTP of up to 410 miles. We’d expect to see a real-world range of around 270- 340 miles from the BMW i5 eDrive 40, depending on when and how you’re driving it; the standard integrated heat pump should help to keep winter range on the i5 up to a good standard, too. BMW vindt het voor de nieuwe 5-serie te vroeg om de volledig elektrische versie een eigen platformarchitectuur mee te geven maar geeft hem wel een eigen naam: i5. This video is about the new BMW 5 Series. More accurately, the new electric 5 series - the i5. We decided to check out the 2023 i5 in its most affordable form - the eDrive40 saloon. In this video, we check out what's to like to drive, the on-board tech, and how much it differs from the petrol-powered variations. Leasing.com sent Howard Ritchie down to an airfield near London, UK, to get up close with arguably BMW's most important model in a number of years. The question is have they done enough, and is this the car that is going to change the mainstream game for BMW and all electric cars. #bmwi5 #bmwelectric #electriccars PROTOTYPE REVIEW: 🤍 Having spent some time in the wilderness, BMW is very much back building electric cars. In a short space of time, BMW has launched its polarising iX range-topping SUV, an posh i7 limo and an entry-level model in the shape of the iX1 SUV. There's also an Electrifying.com favourite, the i4, which has set new standards for premium EVs and showed electric saloons can offer a long electric driving range, but also be fun and engaging to drive. 2024 BMW i5 Starting at $67.795 Overview BMW's executive express is going electric with the mid-size 2024 i5 sedan, which will fill the gap between the 10Best award-winning i4 and the extra-premium i7 flagship. Like those two EV four-doors, the i5 is expected to blend driving pleasure with upscale creature comforts. Two powertrains are coming, starting with a rear-drive eDrive40 model with 335 horsepower. The dual-motor M60 xDrive boosts horsepower to a stout 590 ponies and provides all-wheel-drive traction. We had a chance to drive a prototype of the latter in France and came away impressed with its athleticism and satisfied with its onboard technology features. The i5 faces a growing number of medium-size luxury electric cars made to court moneyed buyers looking for eco-friendly choices. Among them are the Genesis Electrified G80 and the Mercedes-Benz EQE, as well as segment stalwarts such as the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S. What's New for 2024? Debuting alongside a brand-new generation of the gasoline-powered 5-series, the i5 provides an EV option for those shopping BMW's mid-size sedan lineup. We expect to see it in BMW showrooms before the end of 2023. Pricing and Which One to Buy eDrive40: $67,795 M60 xDrive: $85,095 If you're looking to maximize range, the eDrive40 will be able to sail on for a bit longer than the performance-oriented M60 trim. We're driving enthusiasts, though, and we'd gladly trade a bit of range for extra horsepower and cornering grip. EV Motor, Power, and Performance Two i5 models are offered, starting with the 335-hp eDrive40, which drives the rear wheels via a single electric motor. A hotter M60 xDrive model adds a second electric motor on the front axle for a combined 590 hp. During our initial drive in an i5 M60 prototype, we were impressed by the sedan's agile handling, confidence-inspiring levels of cornering grip, and muscular dual-motor powertrain. BMW says the more powerful of the two powertrains can rocket the i5 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, which from our seat-of-the-pants evaluation seems entirely believable. M60 models also come with active anti-roll bars, a sporty suspension tune, wider tires, and rear-wheel steering, which are all intended to give the car a more athletic feel. Range, Charging, and Battery Life An 84.3-kWh battery pack lies beneath the i5's floorboards, which BMW says holds enough charge to power the eDrive40 model for 295 miles between charges. The dual-motor M60 model is less efficient and carries an estimated range of 256 miles per charge. The car's battery pack can be hooked up to DC fast-charging stations and is said to be capable of charging from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes on such a connection. Speaking of charging, BMW will include three years of free 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America charging stations with every new i5. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe The EPA hasn't released fuel economy estimates for the 2024 i5 yet. When we get a chance, we'll take the 5-series on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and update this story with test results. For more information about the 5-series' fuel economy, visit the EPA's website. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo The i5's cabin is just as spacious and posh as that of the gasoline-powered 5-series. The battery doesn't intrude on cabin space, but trunk space is slightly less generous here than in the 5-series. Leather upholstery is still available, but BMW is launching a new faux-leather upholstery called Veganza in the i5; a set of glass interior controls is also available and adds a classy touch to the sedan's cabin. Heated and ventilated front seats with massage are optional on the eDrive40 and standard on the M60 xDrive. Infotainment and Connectivity The i5's dashboard is dominated by a large, curved panel that incorporates a 12.3-inch digital gauge display as well as a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. BMW's latest iDrive 8.5 interface is easy to use and can be updated via over-the-air updates should the need arise for that. A head-up display is optional, but all models come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-dash navigation, a wireless smartphone charging pad, a Harman/Kardon stereo system, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. Reach out and mention RBR! 🤍 - It’s finally time to drive the new #BMW #5series! In top dog form, in the new EV i5 “M60” from #bmwm with almost 600BHP. That’s all good and well - but is it still a proper 5er? Or has it lost the charm? Our new G60 5 series is for the first time a pure electric car, alongside a number of combustion engine variants available, and plug in hybrids coming soon. The great thing is the design of all of them is identical! On the EV side, we have the entry level i5 eDrive40 and the range topping M60 Xdrive. I’ll show you both of these today, and we will drive the later! The M60 is the most powerful current with 598BHP, 820NM and 0-60 in 3.8 seconds! Range comes from an 81.2KW battery, and the claimed mile are 315 — if it gets anywhere near this, we are on to a winner! Of course you can charge 156KM in 10 mins, thanks to fast charging. As for the motor - it’s a 5th Generation E Drive technology with a motor that is smaller but able to provide very high power density. This means it takes less space and weight, while giving more power! That unit houses the electric motor, power electronics and transmission all in one. The M60 has two of these, for xdrive all wheel drive — whereas the eDrive40 is red only. Chassis wise, we have the wheel slip limiter closer to actuator for super quick reactions, sport steering, rear wheel steering, and our car today has the all important “adaptive pro chassis option”. This comes standard on the M60, and it has the typical electronically controlled shock absorbers BUT most crucially anti roll stabilisation! They should make a big difference in dynamics with this heavier car. Inside, we’ve ripped off the 7 series in the best of ways with the new interactive light bar. Today, I’ll show you the M60 specific things in the interior, if you want a more in-depth check out my first look at the 5 series: 🤍 We’ll also discuss the New M5 - the V8 which is Hybrid Powered, likely using the set up that debuted in the XM. Beyond all this, the most important thing today is the drive. How quick is the launch control? How are the dynamics vs rivals like Taycan and EQE? What are the electric sounds like? Is it an electric M5? Let’s find out today! Up next on on RBR is the New Caterham V and the Cayenne S E Hybrid and MUCH MUCH More!!
