Partnerami lidera byli tam John McLaughlin, Jan Garbarek i legendarny Hariprasad Chaurasia – wuj Rakesha, którego usłyszymy w Krakowie. Z Johnem McLaughlinem Hussain współpracował wielokrotnie, m.in. współtworząc świetne nagrania jego grup Shakti i Remember Shakti. Z kolei wspólnie z Billem Laswellem prowadził grupę Tabla Beat Science, gromadzącą wybitnych tablistów i perkusjonistów. Współtworzył też znakomite projekty Planete Drum i Global Drum. Prowadzi m.in. grupę RAF, czyli Rakesh and Frieds. Koncert odbył się w Sali Audytoryjnej ICE Kraków 8 lipca 2015. Pre-Save “Lady L” on all Streaming platforms: 🤍 and visit 🤍 for more info. The Berklee Indian Ensemble proudly presents “Lady L” featuring Grammy-winning Indian tabla master, Ustad Zakir Hussain. This track is the second single off the Ensemble’s debut album, “Shuruaat” (Summer 2022 release). Composed by L. Shankar and John McLaughlin, "Lady L” was originally performed by 'Shakti', the 1970s indo-jazz fusion group and appeared on the group's second studio album titled "A Handful of Beauty". The group featured John McLaughlin (guitar), Zakir Hussain (tabla), L Shankar (Violin) and Vikku Vinayakram (Percussion). One of our listeners inspired us to go further than the Shakti album credits for the origins of this composition. It is possible that L. Shankar was inspired by Bharathiyar’s “Vellai Thamarai” - They use the same raga, and the title, “Lady L” and lyrics offer a clue. Vellai Thamarai is a song for Goddess Saraswathi. While the lyrics never mention her by name, they allude to her innate talent, skill, and attributes. Perhaps Lady L stands for Lady Lotus, as Goddess Saraswathi sits on a lotus flower. We’re curious to learn more, so feel free to add comments and enlighten us! In 2019, Berklee College of Music presented Ustad Zakir Hussain with an Honorary Doctorate. It was the perfect opportunity for our Berklee Indian Ensemble musicians to reinterpret such an iconic composition and collaborate on this live performance with Ustad Zakir Hussain as part of our week-long celebration of the maestro’s life and musical accomplishments leading up to his Honorary Doctorate ceremony. “Lady L" composed by L. Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Zakir Hussain: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert From The Archives

We've been filming Tiny Desk concerts for more than 10 years. While revisiting our archives, we discovered that some of our earliest concerts never made it to YouTube! Watch Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Zakir Hussain’s Tiny Desk concert from 2010: 🤍 Felix Contreras | July 26, 2010 "Beyond category." That's what Duke Ellington used to call musicians who were simply the best at what they do. And that's certainly the case for Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Zakir Hussain. Individually, they're world-class masters of the banjo, the bass fiddle and the tabla, respectively. They conquered mere technical prowess long ago. All three now are at a place where music truly becomes so intuitive that a simple rehearsal — as we got to see before this Tiny Desk Concert in the offices of NPR Music — is an exercise in wordless communication. Just before we rolled tape, the trio worked on a section of one of the songs that involved some unison playing, and I was caught off guard, thinking they didn't really nail it when they tried it three times in a row. Then, when it came time to perform for an audience, they, of course, performed it flawlessly. Ellington had no idea that his words would eventually be applied to a banjo player, a bass fiddle player and an South Asian percussionist. But sit back and enjoy these two pieces from The Melody of Rhythm, and you'll see how right Ellington was. Set List "Bubbles" "Bahar"

Tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, prolific bassist Dave Holland and their international ensemble perform together as Crosscurrents, a musical exploration of the influence of Indian music on the jazz and rock scenes of the '60s. Hear the radio episode: 🤍 ————————————————————— by NATE CHINEN Virtuosity — of a dazzling, ebullient, yet altogether generous sort — might be the most obvious bridge between David Holland and Zakir Hussain. But there's also a deep cultural foundation behind their musical dialogue, which forms the beating heart of a project called Crosscurrents. Hussain, a peerless master of the Indian tabla, and Holland, an English-born bassist of sterling jazz renown, were both shaped in some way by the 1960s, a decade of awakening and convergence. In this episode of Jazz Night in America, we'll explore the influence of Indian music on the jazz and rock scenes of that era — as well as the less familiar story of jazz's influence on the subcontinent, embodied by musicians like pianist and composer Louiz Banks. We'll hear music from a recent Jazz at Lincoln Center concert led by Hussain and Holland. Crosscurrents also features Banks, his son, drummer Gino Banks, along with acclaimed American saxophonist and flutist Chris Potter, Bollywood vocal star Shankar Mahadevan and Mumbai-based jazz guitarist Sanjay Divecha. We'll also get some valuable outside perspective from percussionist Sameer Gupta and other musicians in Brooklyn Raga Massive, which pursues a similar form of thrumming exchange. ————————————————————— This set was recorded at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall on May 5th, 2018 in New York City. Mon premier ? Second channel with ShivJi music on Vimeo: 🤍 My channel with my santoor music: 🤍 Contact: santoorveena🤍gmail.com Pandit Shivkumar Sharma - He was born in Jammu in India on January 13, 1938 ans died on May 10, 2022. He was an Indian musician playing on santoor "shata tantri veena" which means from Sanskrit "100 stringed instrument". His Guru and father Uma Dutt Sharma, taught him singing and playing the tabla from an early age, then he gave him the santoor instrument. Santoor was not a folk instrument, music was played on it to sufi and mystical songs mainly in Kashmir. Pandit ShivKumar Sharma was a precursor and representative of a new style of this instrument, which he completely modified, improved its sound, increased the tonal range, made the sound "slip" technique, used "chikari" to set the rhythm, worked on the shape, material, hammers (kalams) changed the number of strings, He introduced many of his other concepts to be played on a classical music platform. He developed his own system of playing the instrument, established a new position (the instrument on the lap), e.g. for better resonance. All his talent and genius contributed to the creation and improvement of the instrument to perfection, He also externalized the talent in a subtle and extraordinary way of playing, masterful and unsurpassed by anyone. No one has achieved such a degree of artistry and aesthetics, such dignity and such a transcendental mesmerizing melody. His son and apprentice Rahul Sharma became the successor of Master ShivKumar Sharma who continues His playing methods and goes his own way in this field. There are many of His students in the world, we owe the music on the santoor to Him, it is ShivKumar Sharma is the legislator, source, the main and chief person, who showed us what this instrument is and how to play it, showed us what it means to be true art and devotion to developing talent . The amazing thing is that no one can master this instrument like Him. Without ShivKumar Sharma, the music as we know it on the santoor or an instrument of that style would not exist. He was an absolute genius of music, a composer, a thinker, a sage and a very wise and gentle man. He talked about the creative power that is inside and through Him a melody is formed when He focuses. He did not admit that it was He who created it, but that force/vibration/inner sound/Anahad Nad, that created the whole world. You cannot train such musicians, they are born once in many millennia. We will always remember as a disciple, this channel is for worship and homage to our Master and Guru - Pandit ShivKumar Sharma Ji, who gave us very poetic and heavenly music. It was He who started the fame of santoor, it was He who promoted this instrument all over the world, not only in Kashmir. His name is synonymous with this instrument. His death is a great tragedy, a loss, He was and is an authority for us disciples in every area of life.

Zakir Hussain (born 9 March 1951) is an Indian tabla player, composer, percussionist, music producer and film actor. He is the eldest son of tabla player Alla Rakha.[1] He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1988, and the Padma Bhushan in 2002, by the Government of India presented by President Abdul Kalam.[2][1] He was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1990, given by the Sangeet Natak Academy, India's National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama. In 1999, he was awarded the United States National Endowment for the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship, the highest award given to traditional artists and musicians.Hussain played on George Harrison's 1973 album Living in the Material World and John Handy's 1973 album Hard Work. He also performed on Van Morrison's 1979 album Into the Music and Earth, Wind & Fire's 1983 album Powerlight.[4] Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, who had known Zakir since the 1960s,[5] invited him to create the special album Planet Drum, featuring legendary drummers from different parts of the world. Featured along with Zakir, from India, was Vikku Vinayakram, with whom Zakir had collaborated in Shakti. The first Planet Drum album, released in 1991 on the Rykodisc label, went on to earn the 1992 Grammy Award for Best World Music Album, the first Grammy ever awarded in this category.[6][7] The Global Drum Project album and tour brought Mickey Hart, Zakir Hussain, Sikiru Adepoju, and Giovanni Hidalgo together again in a reunion sparked by the 15th anniversary of the ground-breaking album Planet Drum. The album Global Drum Project won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album at the 51st Grammy Awards Ceremony held on 8 February 2009.)[8] Zakir composed, performed and acted as Indian music advisor for the Malayalam film Vanaprastham, a 1999 Cannes Film Festival entry which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival (AFI Fest) in 1999, and won awards at 2000 Istanbul International Film Festival (Turkey), 2000 Mumbai International Film Festival (India), and 2000 National Film Awards (India). He has composed soundtracks for several movies, most notably In Custody and The Mystic Masseur by Ismail Merchant, and has played tabla on the soundtracks of Francis Coppola's Apocalypse Now, Bernardo Bertolucci's Little Buddha, and other films. He starred in several films specifically showcasing his musical performance both solo and with different bands, including the 1998 documentary "Zakir and His Friends",[9] and the documentary "The Speaking Hand: Zakir Hussain and the Art of the Indian Drum" (2003 Sumantra Ghosal).[10] Hussain co-starred as Inder Lal in the Merchant Ivory Film Heat and Dust in 1983, for which he was an associate music director.[11] #zakirhussain #ustadzakirhussain #music #musician #musicvideo #musicislife #musicproducer #musically #musically #classical #classicalmusic #classicalmusicians #classic #indianclassical #indian #legend #legendary #ustad #livestream #livemusic #tabla #tablasolo #solo #tablaplayer #tablas #artist #online #onlineclasses #musicindustry #musiclove #program
